Club Sandwiches are those fun kit car events in which two or more kit car clubs put together a show that combines all the best ingredients of all the clubs in one tasty meal. Such was the case last summer near Kalamazoo, Michigan, at the 2nd Annual Club Sandwich North, a memorable merger of the Chicagoland Replicar Association (CRA) and Grand Touring Sports Club of Michigan.The Gilmore Museum, in Hickory Corners, was the stage for the 22 replicars and their owners, who joined for a day of fun and revelry.
Ken Smith, president of the CRA, presented the KIT CAR Magazine Editor's Choice Car of the Show award to Greg Cohan of Sterling Heights, Michigan, for his Classic Roadsters Sebring and his V-10 venom-powered blue Hunter Cobra.
Members of both clubs participated in an autocross, and Jeff Martin of Sterling Heights blazed through the course in 21.48 for a First Place trophy in his Classic Roadsters Sebring Healey. Ken Smith was Second in his CR '52 MGTD Duchess, followed by Bob Sprout's CR Sebring and Steve Mueller's IFG Lamborghini.
Of the 22 kits in attendance, the eclectic mix included four Healeys, two Mercedes, two Saxons, one Bugatti, one LeBaron, one MiniMark, one Cobra, one Cord, one Avenger, one GT40, one Fiero, one Puma, one Lamborghini, one Manta, one MGTD, and one Porsche. Red was the color of the day, with half the cars showing off some shade of that pigment.
It was a wonderful display of Midwest kits, and this year's show promises to be even bigger, better, and as much fun.
