With only a few spinouts and oil-downs throughout the three-day event, the 2004 Run & Gun went off without a hitch. The weather cooperated and the lower number of racers this year guaranteed everybody got lots of time in the driver's seat. Next year, the event will be held from August 25 through the 27th, with a rain date on August 28. For those without a calendar, the 27th falls on a Saturday-traditionally a day the Run & Gun has used for a rain date but in 2005 will be for drag racing and a possible car show.
Other plans for next year include the possibility of a Manufacturer's Cup for the manufacturer that needs a big enough cup to hold all the appropriate bragging rights for an entire year. We hope manufacturers will see the value in competing against each other for this trophy, rather than competing against the average kit builder/owner in the Prepped or Street classes.
Manufacturers are a large part of the Run & Gun, and we'd like to thank companies such as Shell Valley, Premier Motorsports, Can-Am Exotics, a select group of Superformance dealers, World Class Motorsports, Deman Motorsports, and others for coming out to St. Louis to race (and possibly sell a few cars, too!). But the show couldn't go on without the support of Mr. Average Racer, who really only wants a place to take his car so he can stand on the accelerator pedal for as long as he wants! And isn't that what makes America great?
With new management running things at KIT CAR, we will be looking at ways to improve the Run & Gun event, and we encourage those who want to share in that thinking to send us an e-mail (kitcar@primedia.com) outlining what we could do to make the event better. We will also be announcing some of our new plans in the months to come on our Web site (www.kitcarmag.com) as well as printed in the pages of KIT CAR, so stay tuned!
