For more than 20 years, the Northern California Kit Car Club (or NCKCC for short) has organized a gathering of club members' vehicles, as well as those from all over the western United States, for a two-day show held in San Leandro, California.
With the magnificent San Francisco Bay as a backdrop, the show attracts a wide selection of vehicles from across the kit car spectrum, including vintage Bugatti/VW hybrids and MBZ 500K clones and a good selection of Porsches (including two unfinished 959 kits this year). Throw in a trio of Toma-hawks, a Jag SS100, a couple of MGs, a Devin, a Diva, and the usual collection of Cobras, and you get the idea: lots to check out.
But, like may kit shows across the country, attendance for manufacturers, car owners, and attendees was down this year, prompting some in the club to talk about moving the event somewhere that would at least attract more people. The club is nonprofit and car shows aren't cheap to put on, so the revenue-even the $3 collected per spectator-goes back into the show. Besides raffled items that could be won throughout both days, the club also has a dinner on Saturday night for those who want to hang out and relax.
The weather is always a question mark for events held in Northern California, though the NCKCC couldn't have ordered a nicer day this year-perfect for leisurely strolling around, taking in the cars, and visiting with some old friends!
