For some folks, only black will do when it comes to color choice for their car, but Glenn wanted to give his ride a little more nostalgia, so he opted for a twin set of gold stripes that run down the entire length of the roadster (similar to the paint schemes found on some '60s Shelby Mustangs). Mike Weaver of Majors Select Collision & Paint got the call to spray the PPG-mixed paints, and did an excellent job covering the body inside and out.
Since Glenn is in the building business and works with woods much of the time, he decided his roadster's interior would look a little different from what you'd normally see in a Cobra. He selected a fine chunk of cherry wood, steamed it, and bent it to fit the contours of the roadster's dash area. That done, Auto Meter gauges were added next, along with a wood-trimmed Moto Lita steering wheel that matches the cherry dash's patina.
Though Glenn had outside help with the build of his roadster by those previously mentioned, he also owes a debt of thanks to his three sons, Wesley, Nicholas, and Travis-who actually got him interested in building a Cobra in the first place-his wife, Linda, and his good buddy Jim Imler. Snider says this build was a great experience, and he got to know the Weaver family (who own Unique Motorcars) even better, which he feels was another pleasant result of building his roadster.
If you've seen KIT CAR this past year, then you may have some sense of dj vu, because Glenn's car has been pictured here and there at many events around the Midwest (from the annual homecoming event at Unique to a spot in their booth at last year's Carlisle). But in a sea of cars that sometimes all appear the same, it's nice to see one with some imagination and gobs of curb appeal!
It sorta looks like Glenn... It sorta looks like Glenn is holdin' up the parade, doesn't it? But he was just one of the hundreds who come out every year for the homecoming of Unique Motorcars customers in Gadsden, AL, and participate in the 100-mile cruise. |
