When the original Daytona coupe aluminum skin was first created in the early '60s, and high-speed testing ensued, the only addition needed to make the sleek coupe body stable at top speed was the rear spoiler. Racers like Ken Miles, Bob Bondurant, and Dan Gurney saw this modification as a lifesaver, as the airstream and the spoiler worked together to keep the coupe's frontend from lifting.

Superformance hired the Daytona coupe's original designer/engineer, Peter Brock, to design the Superformance/Shelby American Daytona Cobra coupe. This coupe has a three-inch longer wheelbase than the original Type 65 of the early '60s, which is something that Brock wanted for the first and only six Type 65 coupes back in the day.
