The question I am most often asked as editor of Kit Car magazine is, How do I get my car in Kit Car? I generally tell the questioner that I must see the car. It has to be at one of the shows or events I cover or that my writers attend. I tell the hobbyist that the car should have something intangible that sets it apart from other cars (e.g. a different engine setup; a unique cosmetics and/or paint and detail job; or an avant-garde design change). It must have something that separates it from the myriad other cars we see and feature every year.
Now, there is another way to get your car noticedthis feature.
I mentioned this treatment of the subject in my Drivers Side column in the July 02 issue, and my intent was to run the best of the best. The response has been overwhelming. The number of letters and pictures has far exceeded my expectations, so to accommodate you dedicated hobbyists who have noteworthy cars, we will show 12 cars in this issuea cornucopia of stylesand follow it up several times a year. This feature will not run in every issue, but will be an occasional segment.
If you missed out this time, but still want to get your car in Kit Car, send crisp, clear, clean, unobstructed photos or slides of your car (preferably front three-quarter, front, or side views), and send a list of features your car has, including type of car, manufacturer of the body shell, chassis, engine, carburetor, horsepower, paint color and paint manufacturer, and any special information or accessories that makes your car stand out from the rest.
The best advice I can give you is this: I discounted many submissions because the photos just werent good enough. Many were much too dark. Review Kit Car and see what we use. Take a good look at your car and photograph it without any junk or clutter in the background. Walk around your car to find the best angle. Shoot from above the car, below it, or dead-on; find the shot that best shows off your project. Keep the sun at your back and keep the shadows and darkness to a minimum. Take pictures you are proud of; these should be pictures youd like to enlarge and make posters of. Those are the pictures we want. Above all, have fun, and maybe well see your car in
Kit Car. Send your photos and information to:
