It's Time To Get Blasted!

Well, here's the chassis after I blew the body and nearly every other part off of it. Pretty ugly, but in comparison to the type of material you might find to work with on the East Coast, it looks pretty good!

I'm not ashamed to say I buy some of my tools at Harbor Freight, the discount tool supplier, and they're great for the price you pay. This sandblasting gun ran about $16 and the only downside was the little cup that held the sand--it was too small and had to be filled up often!

Once everything was up and running, it was a slow process to strip away the dirt and grime. I'm glad I'd washed the chassis with Gunk Engine Degreaser first to get rid of the big clods.

I did the work outside, knowing it would get everywhere. (Didn't want to chance getting sand in someone's motor project inside the building!)

The blaster worked pretty well, cleaning off nearly anything in its way.
0605Kc 07 Framerail Z
Here's a mystery no one around here can solve. These numbers were stamped into the side of the framerail. Since it's an '82, we're guessing the 12 23 81 is the date of manufacture, but no one we talked to could give us a clue on what PARISH means. Possibly the company that drew the steel?

When I got done, there was nothing left to do except shake the sand out of my hair (and everywhere else) and begin to sweep up the 150 pounds of sand I'd spread around the driveway! Next month we'll tackle what needs to be modified on the frame to make the body and bed fit.
