Tilt Forward Hood Install - Ecocat Receives A Nose Job

Using a box large enough to approximate the desired size of the power bulge, Lance poured in the expanding foam.

By using the 8-inch diameter sander and the air file, Nelson Custom Paint shaped the foam.

To build the power bulge, Lance wrapped the shaped foam with plastic.

Evercoat Sea-Glass fiberglass cloth and thicker Evercoat Sea-Glass woven roving were used as the base and then layers of fiberglass.

Lance soaked the fiberglass cloth and woven roving in Evercoat laminating resin and hardener.

Nelson Custom Paint mixed the laminating resin and hardener per the instructions and poured the liquid into an aluminum foil lined cardboard tray.

Used as the base for the power bulge, Lance and co-worker Tom Wampler stretched the laminating resin soaked woven roving into place, after cutting it to fit.

Lance and Tom applied multiple layers of fiberglass cloth the width of the power bulge. They smoothed out the material to eliminate any air bubbles.

The fiberglass was given 24 hours to dry. Afterwards, it was removed from the mold, trimmed for fit, and grafted onto the uncut hood.

After drying, Lance cut the inside of the nose to create space needed for clearing the motor.

The Ecocat's new nose not only looks like it was born to have a power bulge, but also the reshaped grille opening design, and the windshield posts removed. The hood's opening and closing action is also nice and solid. Watch for more Ecocat developments in upcoming issues of KIT CAR!
