Dynatek Racings Classic Fuel Injection Edelbrock Injector
To properly test Dynatek's new fuel injection, we decided to compare it to a conventional carburetor. This stroker FE motor was first run with a ported Edelbrock Performer RPM intake topped off with a Quick Fuel 750-cfm carb.

Dynatek Racings Classic Fuel Injection Offset Drive Distributor
The stroker motor was equipped with a custom offset-drive distributor, but a conventional (small-cap) distributor will also work with Dynatek's Classic Fuel Injection. The timing was optimized for both applications.

Dynatek Racings Classic Fuel Injection Dyno Mufflers
Robert Pond brought along a set of 2-inch Hooker headers from his Fairlane. For dyno fitment purposes, the headers were run upside down feeding a pair of 3.5-inch dyno mufflers.

Dynatek Racings Classic Fuel Injection Cnc Work
This shot illustrates the CNC work applied to the intake port. Stock FE heads are inadequate to feed the needs of a stock-displacement motor, let alone a big stroker. These Stage 2 heads offered plenty of flow for the 482 Sideoiler.

Dynatek Racings Classic Fuel Injection Swap
With the baseline-carbureted numbers out of the way, it was time to swap on Classic Fuel Injection. Off came the valve covers to provide access to the Erson rocker arms. Since the pushrods run through the intake manifold, it was necessary to remove the rockers and pushrods before removing the intake.

Dynatek Racings Classic Fuel Injection Cfi Intake
The new CFI intake was carefully positioned on the awaiting FE motor. Care was taken not to disturb the intake gaskets since both the carbureted and CFI intakes were port-matched to the CNC-ported heads.

Dynatek Racings Classic Fuel Injection Dyno Ready Cfi
Here's the Dynatek Racing CFI system ready to rock on the dyno. The visual statement is reason enough to want one of these systems for your Cobra, but this test illustrated that the new CFI system offered both show and go.

Dynatek Racings Classic Fuel Injection 48Mm Throttle Bodies
The key to the new Classic Fuel Injection was the quartet of 48mm throttle bodies. While some may initially be skeptical about the 48mm bores, know that at almost 380 cfm per runner, they outflow their 48mm carbureted counterparts by 90 cfm per runner! The total airflow capacity of the CFI system checks in at over 3,000 cfm. That's a total airflow gain of 720 cfm over the 48mm carburetors, not to mention a huge gain over your garden-variety four-barrel carb.

After tuning the EFI portion of the combination, the 482 stroker produced peak numbers of 630 hp and 629 lb-ft of torque. Not only did the CFI system offer more peak power, but the impressive EFI system outperformed the carburetor throughout the entire tested rev range (from 3,000 rpm to 6,100 rpm).

Dyno testing on a 408 stroker (351 Windsor) showed the Classic Fuel Injection outperformed a ported Edelbrock Victor Jr. Intake and 750 carb by as much as 31 hp and 36 lb-ft of torque. Like the test run on the FE motor, the CFI system improved power production throughout the rev range when tested on the 408 Windsor.

Testing on a 331 stroker Ford Racing crate motor against a Funnel Web single-plane intake and 750 carb produced similar results, with the CFI system bettering the carbureted combination by 29 hp and 33 lb-ft of torque. Only at the very top of the rev range did the carbureted motor make more power.
